In 1034 matched pairs of adults with heart failure and chronic kidney disease, catheter valve replacement (TAVI) was linked to higher mortality over two years than open surgery, but to less acute kidney injury.
In 466 patients with coronary artery disease having a catheter valve replacement, delaying stents reduced bleeding at every level of disease. But with complex disease, deferral was linked to more deaths, heart attacks and strokes: 30.9% vs. 14.8%.
A Korean study of 802 people with severe but symptom-free mitral valve leakage, published Oct. 1, 2026, in JAMA Network Open, linked surgery within 6 months of diagnosis to lower mortality than watchful waiting (hazard ratio 0.69).
