Where the science comes from
We follow new research every day in PubMed, the medical journals and the official health agencies (such as the NIH, CDC and FDA). We always go to the original study or the original guideline. We don't cite news stories, blogs or other sites that repeat the research.
How we choose what goes into an answer
An answer uses the studies we have already covered on Mongevity, plus official guidance when our studies don't cover something you need to know, like how much sleep adults are advised to get. Every fact links to its source: our story about the study, the journal where it was published, or the agency that wrote the guideline.
How we tell you how strong the evidence is
We don't grade studies with letters or stars. We tell you, in plain words, what kind of study it was: whether it was done in people or in animals, whether people were assigned to a treatment (a trial) or simply followed over time (an observational study), and how many took part. If something isn't known yet, we say so.
How we write
Short answer first, in two or three sentences. Then the details, one question at a time. Plain words, US units, and the exact number from the study at least once. We write to leave you informed and with something you can do, never to scare you. We use AI to read thousands of new studies and help us tell them in plain English, and every number is checked against the original study before it's published.
How we keep answers up to date
We check every new study we cover against our answers. If a study changes the short answer, such as a new FDA warning, a new official guideline or research that contradicts what we said, we update the answer right away. Studies that add something new are folded in once a month. Each time, we tell you at the top: "Updated on [date], based on [study]". Every answer shows its last update date and a short history of what changed.
What we don't do
We don't give personal medical advice, and an answer is not a substitute for talking with your doctor or your vet. We don't sell products and no answer is sponsored.
Ask us, or tell us we got something wrong
Send your question, or a correction, with the form at the end of any answer. We read every message. When we fix an error, the answer's update history says so.
